The best UK company to work for is no longer Apple but a pest control firm, staff reviews show.

Global tech giant Apple was pushed into second place by commercial hygiene company, Rentokil.

The organisation, that employs expert technicians in pest control and property care, was praised by its staff for job security and advancement, as well as its ethos of promoting staff internally.

The company of 39,300 employees was also rated highly for encouraging work-life balance and an overall positive culture.

Barclays Bank, The Agincare Group, Wren Kitchens, Lush Cosmetics and Nando's were also high-scoring companies that featured in the top league of employers.

The rankings were compiled by the job website, Indeed, based on feedback from tens of thousands of employees.

Andy Ransom, chief executive of Rentokil Initial, said: "Being Indeed's top-rated workplace is a tribute to the hard work and commitment of our colleagues.

"We focus on getting it right for our people and in turn they provide a great service to our customers."

Bill Richards, UK managing director at Indeed, said: "Britain's job creation boom may be easing off, but it's still very much a jobseeker's market - in which companies have to fight hard to attract the staff they need to grow.

"With private sector employers facing stiff competition for the best talent, many companies realise they need to offer more than just an attractive salary. Other factors can be just as important when it comes to wooing good people."

The top ten performing employers were:

1) Rentokil Initial

2) Apple

3) The Agincare Group

4) Wren Kitchens

5) Lush Cosmetics

6) E (Gas and Electricity)

7) Barclays

8) Nando’s

9) Kumon

10) JPMorgan Chase
