A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a victim was hit by a bowling ball thrown out of a window.

Officers raced to Strelley Road, Bilborough, Nottingham, at about 9.20am on Monday after a report that a man had suffered serious injuries after being hit by the ball.

Part of the road was closed for most of the day as officers conducted negotiations to "ensure the safety" of another man.

Detective Sergeant Simon Carter, who is investigating the incident, said: "I would like to thank the public for their understanding today as we worked with other emergency services to bring this incident to a safe conclusion.

"I understand that incidents such as this one can be concerning for the community, but I would like to reassure local people that our specialist teams were quickly on the scene to ensure no-one else was at risk.

"We believe that this was an isolated incident and I would encourage anyone with any concerns to speak to one of our officers, who will now be going back to their normal patrols."
