A man has been left fighting for his life after he was shot in broad daylight in north west London.

Armed officers rushed to Bravington Road, West Kilburn, shortly before 3pm on Wednesday after reports of a shooting.

London Ambulance Service also attended the scene, which lies in the London Borough of Westminster.

The man, in his late 40s, was taken to hospital where he remains in a life-threatening condition.

Police are working to trace and inform his family.

Roads in the area have been closed off and a section 60 has been put in place until 4am Thursday, covering Westminster and parts of the Kensington & Chelsea and Brent boroughs.

There will be a greater police presence, with officers having further powers of stop and search because of what they are calling "anticipated intelligence."

Pictures from the scene show forensic teams working behind a police cordon across the road.

No arrests have yet been made and enquiries are still ongoing.

Westminster North MP Karen Buck said on Twitter that following the shooting, further investment in the police and prevention techniques "can't come soon enough."
