Police have arrested a man and a woman on suspicion of murdering a baby boy.

A 49-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman have been arrested by Staffordshire police on suspicion of murder.

Officers were called to reports of the seven-week-old child suffering a cardiac arrest at an address in Derwent Street in Cobridge before 9pm on November 26.

One local resident told Stoke On Trent Live police attended an address on Wednesday with a forensics van on the scene for a long period of time.

The witness said: "There were five police cars and a forensic van in the street for most of the afternoon.

"Later it was scaled back to police car with a policeman standing guard outside one of the homes. He was the only one on duty for a while but then what looked like an inspector arrived in an unmarked car."

A spokesperson said the child was taken to hospital where he died a few hours later.

The two suspects remain in custody and the death is currently being treated as unexplained.

More to follow.
