Three people have been killed and others were injured after a shooting reportedly took place at a Halloween party in California.

Nine other people were injured when someone opened fire at the house in Long Beach.

Five of the wounded were said to be in a serious condition.

Long Beach Fire Department tweeted: At 10:44 pm, @lbfirefighters responded to shooting at a residence on the 2700 block of 7th Street.

"An MCI was declared with a total of 12 patients.  3 confirmed fatalities (adult males) 9 patients transported to local area hospitals. 5 immediate & 4 delayed. PIO onscene."

The local fire department says the three male victims all appear to be in their twenties.

Their bodies were found in a garden.

No information on a possible suspect has been released by police. The motive for the shooting is unclear.
