A young boy has thanked Greater Manchester Police for "keeping us safe" following the stabbings at the Manchester Arndale Centre.

A handwritten note was left on the windscreen of a police car in Manchester city centre, thanking them for "saving our lives".

Inspector Jon Middleton said the card, written by a boy named Adam, acted as "a great reminder to us of why we do what we do".

The force has urged the boy to get in touch so he can visit the station.

Writing on Twitter, the force said: "Dear Adam-Hopefully someone will show this to you (you're prob too young to be on twitter!) I'd like to say huge thanks from @GMPCityCentre @gmpolice for your lovely card & kind words - it brought a happy tear to my eye & is a great reminder to us of why we do what we do, Insp M."

Another police officer took to social media to say his team had also received a card from Adam.

"He didn’t just do this one, he took the time to write them out for numerous officers working across the city over the weekend," he said.
