A murder probe has been launched after a mother with a six-year-old son was stabbed to death in north London.

The woman was found with a knife wound after police were called at 11.13pm last night to a stabbing on Belmont Street, Camden.

Police carried out first aid until paramedics arrived but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene at 11.55pm.

A man who knew the victim told LBC that the woman was a young mother who was stabbed ‘during an argument she was not involved in.’

Terry Ellis, from the Camden Against Violence, said the stabbing victim regularly attended the group's events.

"She's a mother, she's got a six-year-old kid," he said. "As far as I know it was an argument she wasn't really involved in.

"She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. It wasn't gang-related, it wasn't drug-related.

"She was a wonderful young lady, always happy. She's got a lovely son and was just a normal mother."

Mr Ellis said the family of the young mother have been left "devastated" by the killing.

"She's just a normal mum," he added.

Two other women were found at the scene with non life-threatening knife injuries.

They were taken to hospital for treatment.

The victim has not yet been formally identified but officers have informed the woman’s next of kin.

A post-mortem will be held at a later date.

35-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held at a north London police station.

Two other people were also killed in London in separate shootings this weekend.

A man apparently shot himself in Sydenham, according to witnesses, after coming to the area to “shoot someone else.”

Another man was shot in a street in Kentish Town just after midnight.

The Sydenham victim was shot at around 3.45pm on Sunday.

The victim died at the scene.

A witness said: “He came to shoot someone else, but he ended up shooting himself.

"The bullet bounced off a car window. You can see on the car window where the bullet bounced off it.

"After it happened, the boy he came to shoot stood there filming him."

The Kentish Town victim, believed to be in his 20s, was found suffering a gunshot injury on Malden Road, NW5.

He was pronounced dead just after midnight. There have been no arrests.
