Teenager arrested over murder of 47-year-old man in County Durham

A teenage boy has been arrested following the murder of a 47-year-old in Consett, County Durham, yesterday.

The was arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday morning following the incident, which police say was a "tragic incident for all involved".

Durham Police said that officers were called to reports of an altercation on Southernwood, Consett, just before 5.30pm on Thursday in which a man had suffered a serious injury.

Durham Police said the victim, who lived locally, did not know the arrested boy.

A spokesperson for the force said the man was pronounced dead a short time after doctors and paramedics arrived at the scene.

Detective Superintendent Dave Ashton said: "This is a tragic incident for all involved, and I would like to offer my condolences to the victim's family.

"I would like to reassure the local community that we are not looking for anybody else in connection with this incident.

"We have a dedicated team of officers and staff who have been working around the clock to establish exactly what happened."

The teenage boy is currently in police custody and officers say they aren't looking for anybody else in connection with the incident.
