Good morning, here's the news you're waking up to today.

Michel Barnier says Boris Johnson will be fully responsible if there is a no-deal Brexit

The EU's chief Brexit negotiator, Michel Barnier, has said Boris Johnson's government will bear the full responsibility for a no-deal Brexit.

His comments come after more than three years of talks between the UK and Brussels appeared on the brink of collapse last night.

The EU called off talks with the UK last night, as the European Commission said the Prime Minister's proposals to replace the Irish backstop "do not provide a basis for concluding an agreement".

Mr Barnier said he could not see how a deal could be done unless the UK came forward with revised proposals in the next few days.

Speaking in Paris, Mr Barnier said: “If they do not change, I do not believe, on the basis of the mandate I have been given by the EU27, that we can advance."

Donald Trump calls for Mitt Romney to be impeached

US President Donald Trump has lashed out at Republican Senator for Utah Mitt Romney after Mr Romney criticised him for calling on Ukraine and China to investigate the family of former Vice President Joe Biden.

Taking to Twitter, Mr Trump wrote: "Mitt Romney never knew how to win. He is a pompous 'ass' who has been fighting me from the beginning, except when he begged me for my endorsement for his Senate run (I gave it to him), and when he begged me to be Secretary of State (I didn't give it to him). He is so bad for R's!"

The President also wrote: "I’m hearing that the Great People of Utah are considering their vote for their Pompous Senator, Mitt Romney, to be a big mistake. I agree! He is a fool who is playing right into the hands of the Do Nothing Democrats! #IMPEACHMITTROMNEY."
