Billie Eilish has been named as the next artist to record the 007 theme song, making her the youngest person ever to do so.

The 18-year-old musician and her brother Finneas have been selected to write the standout track for Daniel Craig's swansong James Bond film No Time To Die.

She follows in the footsteps of the likes of Adele and Sam Smith - who both won Oscars for their efforts - in singing the theme song to a 007 film.

Eilish, who only turned 18 last month, was confirmed by Bond producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli to have written the piece with her brother.

The US-born singer said it was a "huge honour" to be part of "such a legendary series" and that it "feels crazy to be part of" the project.

"James Bond is the coolest film franchise ever to exist. I'm still in shock," she added.

Finneas said they had been "dreaming" of writing a Bond song their "entire lives."

"There is no more iconic pairing of music and cinema than the likes of Goldfinger and Live And Let Die. We feel so so lucky to play a small role in such a legendary franchise, long live 007," he continued.

Wilson and Broccoli declared their joy at working with Eilish and her brother: "We are excited to announce that Billie and Finneas have written an incredibly powerful and moving song for No Time To Die, which has been impeccably crafted to work within the emotional story of the film."

The film's director Cary Joji Fukunaga said he was "a huge fan" of the brother and sister pairing, who were chosen for "their creative integrity and talent."

"I cannot wait for audiences to hear what they've brought - a fresh new perspective whose vocals will echo for generations to come," he added.

The news was confirmed hours after Eilish teased fans about her involvement in the franchise by posting a series of Bond actresses to her Instagram Stories.

Sam Smith's song Writing's On The Wall accompanied the 2015 film Spectre, while Adele sang the title theme song for Skyfall.

Eilish will join some of music's biggest names in writing a James Bond soundtrack including Shirley Bassey, Paul McCartney, Nancy Sinatra, Tom Jones, Tina Turner and Madonna.

The singer has also made history this year for becoming the youngest artist to receive Grammy nominations across all four major categories: record of the year, album of the year, song of the year and best new artist.

She is also up for best pop solo performance and best pop vocal album for the ceremony that will be held at the end of January.

Her debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? topped UK and US charts when it was released last year, making the singer the youngest female solo artist to score a number one album in Britain.

No Time To Die, Daniel Craig's fifth appearance as James Bond, will be released on 2 April.
