Meghan Markle's mother Doria Ragland, 63, has been pictured crossing the finish line of a 5K race for mental health.

Doria was running the race to raise money for the Did Hirsch Suicide Prevention Centre, which describes itself as the first charity of its kind in the US.

The charity trains public services, including firefighters and the FBI, in how to respond to suicide warning signs.

The charity describes itself as: "A national and world leader in training, research and services for people who have thought about, attempted or lost someone to suicide."

The cause is close to Ms Ragland's heart, as she has a background in social work.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also work closely with mental health charities, and have been involved with Prince William's mental health awareness campaign, Heads Together.

Meghan Markle previously said her mother left her job at a mental health clinic in the Los Angeles area last year.

Speaking to Glamour in 2017, she said: "My mom's a yoga instructor, but she does social work, as well, and she works specifically with the geriatric community."

"For me to watch this level of life-long sensitivity to nurturing and caregiving, but at the same time my mom has always been a free spirit. She's got dread locks and a nose ring. She just ran the LA Marathon."

"We can just have so much fun together, and yet, I'll still find so much solace in her support, that duality coexists the same way it would in a best friend."
